A friendly, amateur choir with an 85-year, long-standing reputation for providing a top quality experience for both audiences and singers.
In November 2023, Thomas started as the new Musical Director of Cheltenham Choral Society, following their 85th Anniversary concert. Thomas takes over from fellow Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama alumni, Alexander Thacker, and will be only the fifth conductor in the choir's 85-year history.
Thomas' first concert with the choir will be a Christmas concert with St. Mary's Prestbury and the Beauregard Academy on Monday 18th December, before conducting the choir (alongside Charlton Kings Choral Society) in a performance of Haydn's 'Thereseinmesse' and Mozart's 'Requiem', with full orchestra at Tewkesbury Abbey on 25th May 2024.
For the choir's next concert, we will be performing concert at Pip and Jims in Cheltenham, with repertoire including Holst's Five Partsongs and Stanford's Songs of the Sea and Songs of the Fleet.
Tickets for the concert will be released soon.
In Thomas' first concert with the choir, the choir performed Haydn's Theresienmesse and Mozart's Requiem with Charlton Kings Choral Society, another choir based in Cheltenham. The concert was at the beautiful setting of Tewkesbury Abbey and was conducted by John Wright and Thomas Mottershead respectively.
Immediately following this, the choir performed a lunchtime concert at Great Malvern Priory on Saturday 6th July at 1pm. The concert consisted of varied repertoire including selected parts from Faure’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem; Schubert’s Mass No. 2 in G; Stainer’s The Crucifixion; and Haydn’s Little Organ Mass; along with organ pieces played by Alison Howell.
